I arrived just before dawn, in aperfectly calm anchorage in Hilo, Hawaii. The boat is not moving andit is very strange. Opua, NZ to Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, The Louisiades and East Coast Australia
October 12, 2012: We left Solomon’s with the forecast for light winds 15 knots but as usual that was not the case so we had 25 knots plus and once again I became friends with the bucket, it was really roly poly and it seemed that every 2nd or 3rd wave stopped us dead in the water. It was just a 48 hour sail so the first night was the pits and it all calmed down and we had a lovely sail, we even manag... » read more

October 12, 2012: Today was spent getting the boat back in order after yesterday’s bashing. We went to the office to arrange our lift-out for Endeavour for 12th November before we fly back to the UK on Friday, 16th November. The yard is filling up slowly with boats but on the water, the marina is full. There will not be much to report from now on as we will be enjoying the liveaboard life... » read more

Lagos - Gibraltar - Mallorca - Cartagena (Spain)
September 09, 2012: This Thursday YoHoHo will be leaving Lagos Marina, her home for the last three years, to sail to the Oyster Owners regatta in Palma Mallorca. After the regatta we will winter in Cartagena on the Spanish mainland. When Alison and I returned to YoHoHo on Wednesday she had been ashore for three months, partly to avoid peak summer rates in the marina, but also to allow essential work to... » read more

Croatia
July 25, 2012: Saturday :We set off early to get to the marina and berth before the winds get up, and end up motoring all they way (do you remember from last year the First Rule of Sailing ? That when you are about to go to a marina with electricity, you will have to motor all the way, and therefore arrive with fully charged batteries !).We needn’t have bothered going so early as there is barely any win... » read more

Moving onto our new boat
September 15, 2012: On Thursday morning July 5 we loaded up with cleaning gear and Rob’s laptop and headed for the marina to start work on the yacht soon to be known as ‘Alcheringa’. We began by creating a comprehensive inventory of the boat’s equipment, spares, tools etc as an excel file which listed every storage space onboard and exactly what it contained. Not only is it nice to kn... » read more

Kaua'i, Hawai'i to Sitka, Alaska
July 27, 2012: Yesterday afternoon (July 14th) we returned to Sitka after a splendid circumnavigation of Baranof Island. Looking a bit like the shape of a partly eaten cone of ice-cream (guess what I missed over the two weeks), the island is about 90 nm long and 20 nm wide. The coastline of the main island is probably at least 360 nm with all the long bays/fjords but if all the small associated is... » read more

» read more
