We left Oinoussa at 10.35 a.m. and sailed all the way to Kardhamila on the north side of Khios and as we entered the bay the wind picked up to 16 knots.  We went alongside the inner mole behind a fishing boat, Jolane came in behind us.  This is a small town with a few shops and tavernas, nothing special.  We had a meal at a restaurant on the harbor and returned to the boat with two very large fishing boats moored on the outer mole, it was a hive of activity.  The skipper of one of the boats came over to have a chat with us, another interesting man.  He had been a seaman since leaving school and told us that the fishing vessels only trawl from 1st October until 31st May.  Fishing vessels may apply for a special license outside these dates and then only so many miles away from the coast.  He was looking forward to going home, this being a town south of Khios, where he has six studios to look after.  The crew on board the fishing vessel were mainly Egyptians and had been working on the same ship for eight years, they too go home to Egypt till October.
