Newport-Bermuda Race 2010
The Results
June 28, 2010
The race is scored using two different scoring systems. The difference is in how the boats are compared with one another, which determines the “corrected time” which is used to level the playing field between all the different boats. Each system has it’s pros and cons, so we’re scored under each and there are prizes for each scoring method.
Using the IRC system, we finished in 5th place in our class of 14 yachts, which put us 32nd overall.
Using the ORR system, we finished in 6th place in class, and 27th overall.
Our 5th place was just 2 hours and 21 minutes too slow to capture 4th place and a trophy. Pretty close racing after 3.5 days and 660nm distance. We sailed a good race, learned a bit more about the strategy for this classic navigation challenge, and had a good bit of fun along the way.
