Saturday 24th July
Up early this morning, forecasting a NW 3-4 with sunny spells. Want to get some day sailing in around Falmouth over the next few days. Depart Channals Creek at 0845hrs and motor up past Turnaware Bar as I hoist the main. 0900hrs Full sail tacking up Carrick Roads in a SW 3 with the ebb. Lovely morning and a perfect sailing breeze, two tacks sees under St Anthony’s Head and heading out into Falmouth bay. Head out south into the middle of the bay and then tack for the Helford River. Grey slies but nice and warm. 1300hrs Anchor off the entrance to Gillan Creek to make some lunch and wait for the flood to sail back. A lovely spot and a good over night anchorage in fine weather. You can also go into the Gillan Creek and dry out inshore of the local moorings.
Raise anchor at 1400hrs and start sailing back, but this time close in around the shore to explore the bays and beaches. A nice leisurely afternoon sail in light winds and with the tide. Its a dead run back down Carrick Roads and the wind has gone right down. the flood tide pushes me along nicely and I anchor under mainsail at Channals Creek at 1645hrs. A nice dinner aboard of pepperred steak and salad as the forecast drizzle arrives. Its not heavy enough to ruin a great day.
