Year 1 : The Baltic
Just keep going
July 10, 2010
We have the light wind on our tail today, so don’t feel we are going very fast. But the wind strengthens by midday, and by 1pm we are nearly at our planned destination already. But we can’t stop now – the wind is too good. So we rejig the plan and sail for another couple of hours to Sjalbottna.
We have a busy narrow channel to go up, with the wind mainly astern. With only our mainsail up we are doing 6 to 7 knots and catching up to the boats ahead of us, with not much room to pass. So we pull down the main, put up the genoa, and slow ourselves to 5 knots, and fit in with the traffic now.
Now we are only one day’s sail away from leaving Sweden and crossing to the Aland Islands, our goal. Better get the champers in the fridge for entering another country.

Hi Guys, You seem to be having so much fun that maybe you will not return to the SW Pacific! AirVan still going with quite good loads at present. Probably due to the really cold weather in NZ and Oz. Vila had the annual charity horse races last Sat. Lotsa champers etc. Lucky no booze buses here. I was flying the Auckland flight. With 4 reds approaching as we crossed the race track a fist full of thrust was required making the appropriate amount of noise. AirVan was duly saluted and more champers were opened. Latest shipping news is that the freighter with my Searey amphibian on board will arrive Vila on 1st Aug. I am on Weds Syd. Paxing down as big Andrew is off to sim. Only problem is that that Syd refuellers are going on strike so maybe with full fuel out of Vila we can return via Bne. Will see. Meantime…happy sailing. Le Trakta Triva.
