On the 29 we left Deshaies to go to les Saintes, Terre de haut, a bay with lots of boat at anchor. The view is wonderful. It’s an amazing Island. The day after our arrival I took the time to walk all around the island and visit each beach, each bay, there are all beautiful and completely different from each other. Not to forget the airport! From the “fort Napoleon” you have a great view on the island, and the other island of Guadeloupe, I recommend the visit of the “Fort Napoleon” if you are going there, the guide was great and the walk up the hill is feasible for all. I had a great time in Les Saintes, snorkeling at “Pain de Sucre”, walking down the streets, meeting George and co and dancing on the main place under the stars for New Year Eve before watching the fireworks! I think I’ll come back here, Happy new year!

On boxing day we decided to go further down, first stop was Charleston in Nevis, it was an obligatory stop as we need to do clear out of the island. When done, we decided to spend a night in Montserrat and started sailing south… when approaching the island we were covered with ashes, so badly that we needed to keep our sun glasses on even when getting dark to avoid getting ashes in the eyes, the boat was getting pretty dirty and of course we decided not to take to risk to stop there and we continued till the Guadeloupe. We arrive around 2.30am on Sunday 27 december in Deshaies in the north of Guadeloupe. There we met Alain’s friends, and we spend a few days visiting the “Jardin Botanique” and sailing around Guadeloupe to snorkel at “ile pigeon”. I did really appreciate those few days a shore with a great family, and with whom I took the time to discover some of the local dishes. thanks again.

We left Tintamare around 6.30am and decided to go as south as we could during the day.
First place where we could anchor was on the north of St Kitts around 7.30pm. We had just set the anchor and started cooking when a small boat came along us with flashing blue light. About eight guys were on board, and one of them asked us if they could check the boat. Being from the St Kitts coast guard, we accepted and 3 of them came on board with then big military shoes and guns. One of them was checking the boat paper and our passports when the other was checking our life jackets and security equipment, the third one wasn’t moving and stood still gun in hands – scary – … we just wanted to rest and eat quietly before going to sleep.
After half an hour they left, thanking us for our cooperation … oufff

After dropping the crew we decided to go on the French side of the island in Marigot bay. We dropped the anchor on a sandy ground full of starfishes.
In the evening we went ashore and had the opportunity to see father xmas under radiant heat while enjoying a Belgian beer. This side of the island is also really pretty but we will not take the time to visit during the day and will drop anchor a bit further at Grand case.

After visiting Groot Bay where we ate local food we went to Simpson bay where we dropped Fred and Philippe. To be honest I did not want to let go our super transatlantic crew but yeah… as we say: all the good things have an end. L
