I had thought of not continuing the blog, as we are now in Marmaris for the winter and therefore not doing much and thought you may get bored with the daily news of Yacht Marina life, anyway old habits die hard, so I am continuing to prattle on and will get your views when I return to the UK no doubt.

Raining again today with dark clouds everywhere.  We caught the bus into Marmaris and bought some fresh meat from Tansas, and Brian got an electric socket for the cockpit, glue for the dinghy, and collected an oil extractor that we had ordered last Friday.

Rain and clouds again today with about an hour of sunshine.  We had a game of backgammon with Chris, Maureen and Fred and in the evening had a meal with them in the restaurant.   They go home tomorrow after having had a week of rain and cloudy skies.

Lorraine and Paul ‘Moon Monkey’ also head back tomorrow for their apartment in Chalice where they will spend a few days before heading back to the UK and then on to their winter job in the French ski resort starting on 1st November.

Another cloudy day spent reading mostly.  We arranged to go for a meal in Aktas, which is on the bus route into Marmaris, with Chris and Lois and Maureen and Fred but when we met in the bar at the marina, Maureen and Fred had decided not to come as they had had a bad night’s sleep on Morne Fortune and had got drenched going back to their apartment and could not face another soaking.  We never made it to Aktas as we ate in the marina restaurant.

Sunny and cloudy today but very warm.  Took 3 bags of washing to the laundry and it will be ready Monday, they are very busy.  Cranes are busy all day lifting boats out of the water onto the hard standing, working from 9 a.m. until around  8 p.m.  Two guys from North Sails came today to measure up for the sun shades and took the bimini away with them to do the work.  They promised us it would be ready next Friday.

Today is John Worrall’s 88th birthday – Happy Birthday John!

It started raining at 2.30 a.m. and we woke up to a very cloudy day.  The marina ferry boat service has now stopped for the winter, so we caught the bus into Marmaris to do some shopping.  It started to rain again at 2 p.m. and fortunately we were back on the boat by this time.

Well I suppose it is another trip to the bar at 6 p.m. for a session at ‘happy hour’ , Brian is getting in training for his return to the Quarry!

After a bad night on the ‘My Marina’ pontoon with the lines snatching all night with the constant swell, we left at 7.10 a.m.  The sea had a big swell today but hardly any wind and we were bobbing along like a cork in the water, rolling from side to side – not very nice.

As we entered the bay into Marmaris, the wind picked up with gusts of 20 knots at times.  One of our fenders must have worked its way loose and we had to do a MOB manoeuvre to retrieve it.

We entered the marina and was guided into berth Foxtrot 25 by the marina pilot boat, which we think is a good place to be as it is near to the showers and toilet block.

Today is my friend Gail’s Birthday – Happy Birthday Gail!

Left Yacht Classic pontoon at 6.45 a.m., sun beginning to rise but very cloudy.  The cloud developed even more and we even felt a few spots of rain.  Out to sea we could see a large black flag which appeared to be moving, we decided it was a submarine as it was moving quickly towards the coast.  There was also a helicopter hovering low out to sea.

The sun did not break through the thick clouds but went even darker.  A rib came out to meet us as we entered My Marina and guided us stern to the pontoon.  We had a nice meal in the restaurant, I had mixed fish kebab and Brian had a swordfish steak.  This restaurant is very expensive – 113TL which included two beers and a bottle of water.  The berthing is ‘free’ but water and electricity extra – 20 TL per night.

Another beautiful day, a bit warmer than it has been lately.  Not much to report as still lazing by the waters edge and reading and relaxing.  Tomorrow we are heading to Eckincik before reaching Marmaris on Wednesday.  Again, rain and wind are forecast for Thursday and through the weekend.

Another sunny day spent relaxing by the waters edge, the wind picked up about noon and was quite chilly.  We are now on our own as Lois and Chris left this morning at 5.30 a.m. heading for Marmaris, they are meeting Chris’ sister Maureen and her husband Fred on Tuesday in Marmaris.  They have booked a hotel in Marmaris for a week.

Anders slipped on his boat when we were in Sarsala Bay last Saturday and hurt his ribs and we arranged for him to come to our boat at 10 a.m. this morning and I gave him a reflexology treatment.  He thoroughly enjoyed it.

We then went into Fethiye and Agneta bought gifts to take home.  We had lunch at the kebab salon near the fish market square and in the evening ate in the boutique Yacht Hotel – our last meal together as Anders and Agneta are heading back tomorrow towards Kalkan and Lois and Chris are going back to Marmaris.  A wedding reception was on at Yacht Classic Hotel restaurant tonight so we had made a wise choice in going to the sister hotel to eat.
