Sole Mates III Sails to Mystic, Conn.
Day One and Day Two
August 05, 2008
At 4:30 a.m. the alarm on the cell phone rang and we were off by 5:30. Breakfast, brushing and general beautification rituals were quickly accomplished as we were facing a trip of approximately 46 nm and a race that was moving west beginning about 9:00 a.m. We hit it perfectly and the boat was logged at 8.3 knots at one point. The race made up in part for the lack of wind. Wind speed went from about 5 knots to about 1.5 knots for most of the morning. Motor sailing seems to be something that we excel at lately. And, did I mention that the almost nonexistent wind was at our backs?
We arrived at Fisher island at about 1:15, ate a quick lunch and proceeded to explore the island. So far, we have found the airport, the ferry, a convenience store, a gas station which seconds as the ice distributor, the post office, the state polic house, and about two other nonessential-type stores. Wow! And, almost everything seems to be set in the 1930 timeframe.
