I Bought a Sailboat...

Let the Journey begin. I read somewhere, that a powerboat will get you to your destination, but a sailboat will get you on your journey, I like that. Well, I bought a 1969 22' ...

I pull all the sails in, grab the engine…IT STARTS !, off we head right back into the storm, the rain was so strong, could barely see the bow, my cont... » read more

End of Season Cruise 2007

End of Season Cruise 2007

An end of the season overnight.

May 01, 2009: For an end of the season cruise, we sailed to Atlantic Highlands YC. We came into the harbor and got a great mooring (for free because of reciprocity). A lot of boats came in after us and had to take moorings far out in the harbor…we definitely got lucky! We took the dinghy in for dinner. We went to the yacht club for a couple of cocktails and then went to the harbor side grill. Afte... » read more

Getting Ready to Go

Getting Ready to Go

Since the only way to blog here on TripSailor seems to be by creating a 'trip' we'll just call this the Getting Ready to Go Trip!

May 01, 2009: I’ve been doing a lot of research into what the vessel I purchase should have. For at least my first year living aboard, I will be coastal in order to gain experience and get comfortable with my boat. However, I definitely want long-distance passages to be an option. Here are some of the requirements I have come up with:TillerDiesel EngineFull keelStraight keel  – not angledKeel... » read more

New England Cruise 2007

New England Cruise 2007

Trip started in Keyport NJ. We went up to Block Island and Newport and then made our way back to Liberty Marina across from NYC.

May 01, 2009: We left Branford after a great night. We sailed to Manhasset Bay, the last harbor before the east river. We pulled up to the dock at Louie’s restaurant. It was a little formal after a whole day of sailing, but we sat outside on the deck. The food was great! It was dusk when we were done, but the tide was right and I have a lot of experience on the East River, so we decided to go back... » read more

Villainy sails south for winter

Villainy sails south for winter

Blog by Clay and Galit sailing Villainy from New York City to Miami, Keys and Bahamas, Fall 2009 - Spring 2010.

June 04, 2010: Little Woody was great and we highly recommend him.  He had great stories of the disasters on the reef (good for business) and celebrities that use his service (good for business).  And he brought us a carrot cake and 6 johnny cakes that his wife makes (great for business)!  The passage was uneventful and I stored the track on my chartplotter.  Comparing it to the recommende... » read more

May 01, 2009: Saturday night was celebration time. The Bell’Avventuras took Corpus Christi by storm. After a quick cocktail with Steven the bartender at Landry’s, the restaurant on our dock (talk about being within drunk walking distance of your boat), we met friends Doug, Amanda, and Sarah at The Executive Surf club for food, beer, and some great live music. When the band was done, we hit the lo... » read more
