The work has really finished and we are heading north at last. We don't have an itinerary, we don't have a time frame, we are just heading north and exploring lots of new places...
May 01, 2009: There is another beach just around the corner “Yarrabah” and we decide to head there for a look. Very disappointing after Turtle Bay. We had to anchor a long way out, there was a lot of mud and not much going for it. October 31, 2009: Leave Flattery at midnight out sights set for Cooktown. Calm crossing, arriving at 06.00 and rafting up to Mr. Bill again. Out with the suds and give Peggy-Anne a top to toe clean. July 09, 2011: The new part for the anchor winch didn’t work, so a whole new windlass was ordered, This meant a few trips into Airlie Beach to pick it up, send back the gypsy(part the chain winds around) as Steve had told them the wrong size, and pick up the replacement. Charon departed Tasmania (Launceston) on May 31st - determined to head off before winter set in. Taking on crew, we had a decent trip across Bass Strait and arrived in Batemans ...
November 14, 2010: It was timely to leave Brisbane and with the AIS now operating, we were able to monitor the 20 or so ships that appeared on our plotter. I had wired the VHF antenna through many metres of stainless tubing on the davits, the intricacies of the aft cabin and engine room and eventually up to the AIS unit in the saloon. What a luxury.
