About Me

I’ve been sailing on and off since 1972 but really only got into it when I spent 3 years in Dubai (1980-1983) with a very slow Laser, slow when I was driving it anyway.

Migrated to cruisers in 1991 (water in UK is too cold for me especially in a dinghy), but have done most of my sailing in the Mediteranean anyway.

Still don’t have my own boat, it is cheaper to hire someone elses for the amount of time off I have.

Sailing Experience

I’m only a coastal sailor, no ocean experience.

239 days at sea, and 4800 miles logged on yachts so far, and hold the MCA/RYA Coastal Skipper certificate

Just finished my longest trip yet 850 miles from Inverness to Gosport, via the Caledonian Canal.

Longest passage is 235 miles, Milford Haven to Brixham

November 30, 2008: A trip arranged by email to join a skipper with whom we have only conversed via email. What awaits us in Alghero as our cheap Ryanair flight  decends towards Sardinia? One thing we do know after our last exchange of email is that the yacht didn’t make it back to Alghero after its last trip and is in a Castelsardo marina on the north coast so its going to be a taxi trip across the isl... » read more

November 06, 2008: Well it all started with a "special offer" eMail from Sunsail, two week flotilla out of St Vincent, and the discovery that they were offering a "share-a-yacht" option, four up on a Sun Odessey 43DS.Looked like a good trip, into an area I had never sailed before, so I suggested to my sister that she might like to join me..When is it?
