Turkey Beach and Beyond
August 21, 2008
We left Pancake last Monday as the weather was very inclement and headed to Turkey Beach in Rodd Harbour. Turkey Beach was a small holiday village with just one shop and we spent a pleasant night there. Another yacht in the anchorage was Chobe with Trevor and Sue on board who we met in Pancake. We enjoyed a cappuccino with them at the store. The next day we both set off for Seven Mile Creek just around the corner and anchored in the entrance to Thornton’s Creek. Not much here but mud and mangroves and no crabs. A couple of small beaches at low tide and some disused fisherman’s huts. Spent a musical evening with the Chobe’s aboard Peggy-Anne. This morning Chobe struck out for the Boyne River and we attempted the shallow Boyne Creek route to Colosseum Inlet. A bit of a challenge but ok with the tide – lots of rocks and shallow water. The Colosseum is very deep with lots of sandy beaches. Spent most of the day walking the beaches and visited a small community on the northern foreshore where we met Lana and Garry who have just in the last month retired there from Brisbane. We were offered wine and talked about retirement at length. They are coming aboard for coffee in the morning and we have been invited back there for dinner tomorrow night.
