The final day

October 12, 2006

A short hop back from Bequia to St Vincent, but we hold it for a hour or so as a totrrential rain shower slams into Britannia Bay.  Visibility 50 yards and pouring rain, stay at anchor and put the kettle on!

Then back to the Lagoon marina and discurss the trip with the gang.

Someonee comments about difficuly sleeping when their boat was rolling at anchor, and I make some comment about "well I found it better to lie across the boat"...  "What do you mean?" They come aboard and are amazed at my single aft cabin (the owners steteroom layout without the central bunkhead) An 11 foot wide bed and ensuite heads…

They go to take a look in the fore-peak and it is still laid out as it was when I came aboard with the towels folded on the bunk.  You haven’t even used it they cry, and we were couped up on a 35 with mum and dad…

Final night party goes off well and I am suprised with an award as the "Most Charismatic Person", just what side of me did they see at that barbeque….

The next day we are due to fly back up to Antigua to pick up the London flight, using a local "island hopper", via Barbados and St Lucia. Got to Barbados and they asked us all to get off and then cancelled the rest of the flight as they wanted to snd the aircraft down to Trinidad…

Finally got us booked on to the next flight to Antigua via St Lucia and Dominica and we all get on to the plane after watching our bags being loaded. The doors are shut and up comes a baggage truck loaded with banannas. Upgoes the luggage door, off go the bags and on got the banannas! "But the bananas will go off if their delayed your bags won’t!"

Interesting flight back though as it was daylight and we were fying low, so could look at the islands we didn’t land on.  Managed to see Daimond Rock  off Martinique, and even the smoke rising from the volcano on Monserratt. Landing at Dominica was fun as there was an on shore breeze so we came almost vertically down the side of a mountain and then pulled up to touch down on the unway. Someone built the airport in steep sided valley!

Landed at Antiqua waited for the bags and of course no sign, then had to fill out immigration forms to get through to the main departure hall to chase up the airline reps.  They were ready for us with all the claim forms etc readty even down to our names and desciptions of the bags, Someone obviously emailed or telexed from Barbados!  Then back through customs again and run for the London plane, almost missed it!  My bag arrived in London two days after me, complete with my carefully packed bottle of Barbados rum…
