Race back to Bequia
October 11, 2006
A good long sail today, back to Britannia Bay on Bequia, and we are going to make a bit of a regatta out of it with the start line between the lead boat and a beakon post out in the bay, the one with two Pelicans sitting on it…
Interesting conditions with good winds at times and almost nothing at others.
This part of the Caribbean is tidal and whilst there isn’t a lot of tidal range you do get some strong tidal currents between the islands. Time to steer North East to go North sort of thing..
Have a bit of a discussion about the "course to steer" with Guy, but it is my boat for another two days so I reckon about 30 degrees (I am actually cheating a little as my trusty hand held GPS does show a lovely track going straight for the end of Bequia)
Guy reckons we can cut through the gap between Bequia and West Cay, well I might normally have gone for it under engine, but under sail? OK I let him have his bit of fun and we head into the narrow channel, and promptly lose the wind. That shore is sure getting close… OK abandon the race and start the motor! There is no point in risking the boat for a fun race.
