Camelot - Its Only a Model
Sydney to Brisbane
October 06, 2008
Apologies for a lack of input my end but I’ve just got Internet Access worked out – have the Ericcson 3G Router talking nicely to Telstra (thats another story in itself – my luv affair with Telstra continues).
The sail from Sydney started well and we managed to crank it up to over 10 knots before we put a couple of reefs in and then took them out later in the night as the wind dropped away to nothing. The first morning out was magical as we saw our first whales and dolphins (we ended up seeing whales every day so far)
Other highlights of the trip up were:
1. Being buzzed by 3 RAAF Hornets (2 one side – 1 the other at mast height) followed by a C130 10 minutes later – aybe a touch higher but not much).
2. Heaps of bird life. Whales everywhere breaching out of the water, tails in the air and flippers spashing away)
3. Stopping off at Coffs for fuel and hunting down cream and salmon for a Royce speciality.
4. Watching the Sea Eagles demolish Melbourne as we sailed along
5. Places like Seal Rocks and Cape Byron (eastern most part of Australia).
6. Getting out of the rough stuff (25-30 knots on the nose) and into the inland waterways of Gold Coast – Brisane. We got to the Gold Coast at about 2pm and it took us 5 hours to get from there to Brisbane.
