Oct. 3 -Safe in the arms of liberty

October 03, 2008

We are moored just behind the statue of Liberty.

We had 20-25 knots, gusting to 30, when coming from Nyack to NY City yesterday. 79th street basin was full of boats and really rocking because of the strong winds and boat traffic, so behind Miss Liberty is much quieter, but leaves us unable to exit to the city.

A flogging half furled jib – first time in 30 years- kept us entranced and the folks on the Tapenzee bridge and in Nyack entertained for about two hours while we fought with Murphy to get it cleared in the strong winds.

The antenna is now connected, so hopefully communication will improve. WiFi has been very minimal at best thus far.

Keeping us functional and in transit keeps us very busy. So, by 9:00 p.m. we are falling asleep.

Yesterday a large sleek motor yacht was cruising past us and two “trump” helicopters flew past just in front of the yacht. We speculated that it was Donald wanting to come aboard for tea. But he didn’t call. I quess he was too shy to ask.

We passed the George Washington Street bridge and said hello to the anchor we left there 20 years ago.

The adventure continues.
