Day 3- N from Cape Canaveral

July 14, 2008

Today we had really calm winds, about 3 knots out of the east, so again we had to motor all day. The boredom was broken up somewhat by many sightings of Dolphins, and at one stage we had a school of 15-20 large (about 6ft) swimming right by the Bow – we could almost reach down and touch them. I got some great video for distribution later. We also saw quite a few Turtles floating around on teh calm waters.

We were hoping to sleep over in St. Augustine, but at this slow rate we won’t make it before nightfall, and entry into the mouth there is not advised after dark, so we are pushing on to Fernandina Beach, the last outpost in Florida, and we hope to get there early morning tomorrow. Hopefully the winds will pick up tonight. We need to stock up with ice, water, diesel and some other boat essentials, and do a bit of sightseeing. We’ll probably leave there in the afternoon sometime.

So much wild life!! That is great!
You’ll have to give a full report on what that side of Florida looks like…Im very curious!
Glad there was no damage during the storm…it’s been a whilehey Papsie, since you’ve had to navigate a storm! How exciting!

Glad to know where you guys are. Bob tried calling me several times tonight; now I know why we weren’t connecting. I’ll look forward to his call in the morning. Be safe. – Karen
