Day 2-From West Palm Beach

July 13, 2008

We were up about 6:30 am, stocked up the boat with water and Ice, and left about 8am. Winds were calm and we had to motor the whole morning. Very boring. In the afternoon the winds started to pick up, and about 12 miles offshore of Jacksonville we were hit by a Thunderstorm – strong wind of about 30 knots on our tail – we were doing about 12-13 knots, at a bearing of 30 degresss- out to sea. After about an hour it subsided and we were drenched with torrential rain. But pretty soon it all blew over, and we had a fantastic night sail the rest of the way working our way back to shore at about 7 mph to just past Cape Canaveral, where we had to lookout for the shoals in the area.
