Sole Mates III sails to Maine

N 41° 44' W 70° 38'

Day One

July 09, 2008

Left Bristol Harbor at 6:30 AM. Wind averaged between 18-20 kts. from the South. We motored down the Sakonnet River as the wind was dead on. Seas 2 to 5 feet off shore, so sailed with the Jib only from the entrance of the river to Cleveland Ledge. We maintained an average speed of 5 to 6+ kts. As we headed up the Cleveland ledge approach we again motored as the wind was dead behind us. Arrived at Onset  Bay Marina at 5:30 PM., 56 nautical miles later.

Because a 65+ gentleman fell overboard in this general area, yesterday, we encountered Coast Guard Cutters and Helicopters numerous times.

When you veiw the pictures under the Sakonnet Bridge it proves we just make it!!

The third picture you should all recognize.  In fact, one of us spent a great deal of time there didn’t we?

The last picture shows the three boats returning that we believe belong to the FBI?? We saw them last year at Plymouth.
