Going further west....

July 14, 2008

Left Cowes just after 10:00 after Gen completed some minor adjustments on the engine and fuel lines.  Fabulous weather.  The Needles are something to see up close.  Before passing we saw some rescue practice going on.

Got a bit of sailing in after Gen checked out some noises on the deck whilst we in the middle of the overfalls past the Needles.

Entered Poole Harbour around 15:00.  Pottered around a little looking for a good place to anchor the night.  Found one which we book marked.  As looking for another behind Brownsea Island we ran nicely aground.  Stuck in the mud for over half an hour.  Finally got off the ground after much revving of the engine and using of the bow thruster.  We could have waited for the tide to rise but…. the tidal range was only 0.6metres so we could still be stuck there now.

Took up a swinging mooring not far from the castle.

Photos show Cowes, the Needles, the good anchorage, where we ran aground and where we stayed the night.
