Dos Primos
Oswego
August 14, 2008
As we came in, we sail out of Sodus Bay leaving behind all the local beauty of the harbour and this serene marine setting. Once again we plough forward on to Oswego and the end of the Great Lakes Adventure for this leg of the journey. In Oswego we will take down the mast and place it on mast stands set on the deck of the boat. Once this is done we will start down the Oswego River and through 8 more locks until we reach the Oneida river.
Taking down the mast is a great experience and there are several other boaters there working on outfitting their boats to carry the masts. We work feverishly to get ready for the ‘event’ of mast stepping and it happens early in the morning. Fortunately, we are prepared well, thanks to Dave’s great planning and workmanship. The mast nestles firmly into the stands and we gas up and move on down the river. Here is a group of pictures that show the locks. There are gates on each end and they fill the lock or lower it depending on the direction you are going. We were lifted about 8 to 10’ each time and thanked the attendants for the LIft!
