Summer 2008
Ellos (Again)
July 19, 2008
Arrived last night to Ellos (our start point six weeks ago!) after 4 sailing days and 3 gale waiting-in-harbor days from Oslo. No wifi internet to be found easily since Oslo so alot to catch up on.
Our friends Joel and Belen came to Oslo to sail south with us. Joel is a professional ship captain so was a big help with sailing and navigating. We all discovered that two couples on a 34 foot boat for more than a week is challenging mentally and physically, but we had our best day of sailing as a crew yesterday sailing a few miles off the coast from Gluppo to Ellos in a 10-15kt SW wind and moderate to light swell. They left today to return to their normal lives but we are grateful for the effort they made to meet us, sail and share this experience with us. Our love to you always.
Big waves and wind in the Skagerrak, both while sailing and while blowing around on the anchor or slamming against a dock somewhere while waiting for gales to pass have us wondering, ’Is yachting fun?’ Answer: ‘Well, sometimes.’ We agree that light to moderate wind and seas and warm days are our preferred sailing medium and they are simply in short supply here in Sweden and Norway. The Kattegat is the next body of salt water to the south and always seems to be one step below the Skagerrak on the Beaufort Scale when the weather report comes up. We hope weather will moderate as we head south.

Albert, This is Jon. We have never met, but Pam is spot on! It sure looks like you have a wonderful trip planned! Its funny that you mention Dove as your inspiration. As I remember, Dove was an Allied Seawind and was the first fiberglass boat to circumnavigate. We own an Allied Seabreeze, which is kind of a sistership to a Seawind. Anyway, good luck on your trip. Keep livin’ the dream!!! Fairwinds and following seas…

Albert & Bridget – Writing to tell you Albert that Brynn and Jon have been asking about you, so I gave them your website so they could see where you are going as Jon wishes more than Brynn to be with you both as he loves to sail and they are sailors also. I have kept them informed but they wanted to see where your going so I hope you do not mind them tracking your trip. Their e-mail for your info is themoody5@msn.com., and they really want to meet you some day also as Albert you & Jon have a lot in common. We were in PT this weekend camping at Port Hudson and went by the house & it looks just fine, missed seeing you two, next summer for sure we have to get together. Found a great italian restaurant Lanza’s Ristorante, & the owner Lori Lanza you will not believe this, but I worked for her Dad back in the 1960’s in his law office. Small world, the food is to die for and she is a fabulous cook and her husband Steve Knight, is really a nice guy too. Do you know them, if you don’t you should get aquainted, neat couple.
That is it for now, love & miss you both, PL & Q
