Cool Breeze does the Chesapeake

We are safely at the dock of The Boat Shed marina in Georgetown, SC. We’ve both showered in “adequate” showers and will soon go to dinner in the historic downtown area.
We left Charleston around 9:30 on Wednesday, and spent a long day on the water since I forgot the phone number of my friend Bonnie who lives on the ICW, and we had to find a suitable anchorage. We had to wait at the “open on request” bridge to Sullivan’s Island for the other 4 sailboats behind us to catch up. You can imagine patient Bill’s reaction! Bill had the helm most of the day as we always seem to be in shallow water, so that left me plenty of time to clean up the mess I made in the morning when I spilt ¼ of a pot of coffee into the stove. We ended up in the South Santee River amid myriad crab pots, but it was a beautiful, pristine anchorage. We had a lovely evening, in spite of the horseflies, had a nice dinner, watched American Idol, and turned in. We slept better than we have so far on the trip, in fact we slept until almost 9:00. We had a quick breakfast, during which I discovered my coffee cream had spilt into the bottom of the refrigerator. Then we pulled anchor and headed out of the river, dodging crab pots that were hard to see because of the angle of the sun.
The day was warmer than yesterday, but still cool, and we were still in jeans and jackets. The weather reports call for warmer weather in the next few days, which is music to our ears. We had a fairly short day on the water since we’d gone further than intended yesterday. We had to cross Winyah Bay, which was long and choppy. The water was really muddy and dirty looking, but we couldn’t figure out why. The horseflies kept us company until we were well into the bay. We had an easy docking at the Boat Shed-outside on the face dock, but pretty well sheltered. Soon we had everything ship-shape and we headed out for a tour of Georgetown, seeing many historic buildings and a delightful harbour walk. We stopped in at a specialty shop and bought muffins and pimiento cheese for sandwiches, and tried to make a reservation for dinner, but were unsuccessful. I also went in a couple of clothing stores to look for a bathing suit, which weren’t to be found, as I forgot to pack even a single one. How can one not pack a bathing suit? I guess in the same way one can forget to pack more than one pair of long pants. Oh well, I’ve ordered one from Land’s End, which daughter Ann has graciously agreed to overnight to me whenever I decide where we’ll be when it arrives at her house.
Thanks for your posts and comments. Trip Sailor has corrected the problem that we had in identifying comments and their appearance on the post, so disregard previous instructions. They are very responsive, and I’m glad I discovered their site for my blog. Tomorrow, we’re off to an anchorage between here and Myrtle Beach and should be in N. Myrtle Beach by Saturday night.
