Parry's Sail To the Baltic
Dyvig to Aabenraa
May 13, 2008
Left Dyvig at 1015 and sailed through the narrow channel under jib, very cool. We then headed for Aabenraa an old town with medieval buildings etc. thought we should do some culture today!
The wind picked up a little and so when we arrived the box mooring looked a bit tricky. It also didn’t look very wide. Steve and I seem to have got our technique right now, a couple of bowlines which I put on each post (the windward side first), then with a bow fender on and the steps down at the bow on the starboard side I can just get off with very little effort. Steve then pulls in the bowlines whilst driving us in. We got in with about 50cm to spare each side…at least the post are made of wood. This became very important when Suzie Too had a go at coming in with zero space each side…..it was a non starter for them so they had to bail out and move on to an anchorage…...what will we do without them for a night!!???
We then cycled into Aabenraa and headed for the oldest medieval castle in Denmark complete with a moat…it didn’t look very medieval but nice all the same. Then we headed back into the town centre via some of the old cobbled streets and half timber framed buildings. Finished off the day with a food shop (Fotex) which wasn’t too expensive!
