Parry's Sail To the Baltic

Kiel Canal - Rendsburg

May 03, 2008

Finally into the Keil canal, we had a reasonably early start – 10am!! and headed south along the Elbe for the entrance with clear blue skies and a warming sun.  It was large but much easier lock than we thought but with a floating pontoon that was about a foot above water level.  Di just about managed to launch herself over the  side, managed to land on her feet and tie both ropes – bless her!!!

Then a 25 mile motor along the canal to Rensberg.   The canal is quite picturesque with wooded banks, the boa traffic is quite heavy with huge container ships passing within about 20 feet (fortunately only at 8-9knots), an awsome sight at a distance that would be pretty frightening in the Solent.

Arrived at Rendsberg late afternoon in warm sunshine, a pretty marina in a delightful offshot from the canal. Hollie and I had a play in the dinghy with the sail up followed by a couple of well earned beers (honestly!!) and a nice meal courtesy of Suzie Too.
