Parry's Sail To the Baltic

First Leg to Dover

April 08, 2008

Left bleary eyed at 03.30 from Gosport and headed East with Helen and her friend Cathie.   Went via Selsey Bill (looe Channel) with a view to getting to Eastbourne.  Weather was cold but clear but little wind so maotor sailed and Heln and I saw dawn after Selsey Bill.   We rounded BeachyHead (complete withsnow still on top) in bright sunshine at 10knt with a favourable tide  We would have made Eastbourne at 12.00pm so decided to push on to Doverwith the tide with us all the way.  We reached Dover Marina at 16.00 stll in brilliant sunshine.  A first leg of 105 miles averaging 8.3knots moor sailing.

Dinner on the boat and a drink in the Royal Cinque Ports Sailing Club before sinking into bed tired but pleased with the first days progress.
