February 09, 2010: We took the tender over to the beach at Mulligans and were walking along it trying to locate a track that would lead us to the waterfall. There was a large tree that was lying on it’s side, it would have been driftwood that was probably been washed up in the recent 3m tides.Toby and Bj climbed along the trunk and jumped off to the soft sand which was only about 1-2m off the ground. February 08, 2010: We really do enjoy Coconut Grove and Dinner Key. We’ve had several days of laid-back vacation. Bill unloaded Christine and E.S., and we biked to Home Depot and Milam’s Grocery Store. We bought yet another water filter to try out and shopped at Milam’s. We unpacked groceries and then headed back to the “Grove.” We stopped in at the Chamber of... » read more

Blog by Clay and Galit sailing Villainy from New York City to Miami, Keys and Bahamas, Fall 2009 - Spring 2010.
February 08, 2010: Next stop: Key West! Got up, and threw up the main and genny and we were off to the races. It did feel really disorienting to be sailing West right at 270 degrees as almost all of our sailing has been South. Six hours later on a single tack we arrived in Key West. Stay tuned for more updates and new videos that I need to upload when I have a better internet connection! » read more

February 08, 2010: We slipped our mooring at 0930 Friday morning and motored to the wharf to check out with the officials. All went smoothly and $70 later, we were on our way to the west pass, 15 miles away. Palau turned out to be one of the more expensive countries that we’ve visited, as far as fees go. We got lucky with the weather and had a nice day with a fresh breeze for departing. We also had an ebbin... » read more

Maiden voyage after purchasing Crosswinds. My friend Grant and I departed Portsmouth, NH on Saturday, May 10, 2009 and I arrived (without Grant) in Queens, NY on Saturday, May 16.
February 08, 2010: I wanted to get as early a start as possible, so we woke up again at dawn and shoved off. Once more the brightening sky framed our departure out of Newport harbor, and we set off for the Long Island Sound. Again the winds were almost calm, but we hoisted the sails and turned west around Point Judith. The seas were smooth as a mill pond until we entered the Race, where we got s... » read more

February 07, 2010: Phew! Why did I think that I would have more time to work on the blog when my brother arrived??? Anyway, he arrived on Wednesday after a good trip from Britain and we have taken him on a shopping tour of Panama City (mostly for an eclectic selection of boat parts), to the visitors’ center at Miraflores Locks (I tried not to talk constantly about our transit), and to the o... » read more

Our stay in Tasmania extended through winter of 2009 as Ian had a mitral valve replacement. This gave us the opportunity to see a fair bit of the island by car.
February 05, 2010: Ian and I have worked like Trojans since leaving our Kings Pier Marina berth last Monday. We were taken out of the water on a cradle that runs up a ramp on railway type tracks. Then you blast the bottom of the boat with a hi pressure hose to get the barnacles and other sealife off the bottom. Then the net leg of the operation looks so daunting that you hire someone else to do the work for you!!... » read more
