Atlantic Challenge 2011
Checking the new NASA LED tricolour. Fab company who have supported me in the venture.
Getting some sea miles in, testing the boat.
Makatea doing what she does best...
At PD Riggers North wales for her re rig.
An original Hasler gear very kindly donated by John Jackson of John Jackson Surveying, North Wales. Given a new lease of life by my dad, it's ready for it's second Atlantic crossing!
Leaving Las Palmas
Bruno & co in Las Palmas, who were ocean hitchhiking, lovely family.
"Pre Christmas dinner" aboard Sara Jane
So that's why the anchor draggged...!
Ben & Katia leaving for the Atlantic crossing in their 9m yacht "Callisto"
My "emergency kit" for the dinghy- the small anchor + 100feet of para cord in case it all went wrong in Mindelo...
My coffin berth on the port side. It's great for holding me in place when the boat is rolling, but it does get a bit stuffy!
Running goosewinged down to the Cape Verdes. Makatea will sail herself quite happily in this configuration, although it can be a bit tricky to set up. Big thanks to Mat Arnold, owner of Central Station for the sponsorship!
Painting my Cape Verde courtesy flag. At 10 euros a go the cost quickly mounts so it's an easy way to save cash! (And it's not as if I'm short of time...)
Flying the big kite- the secret weapon that comes out when boat speed drops below 4 kts!
