I am a single-handed coastal sailor and my home waters are the beautiful Isles of Scilly, providing a great cruising area right on my door step. Land’s End on the UK mainland is 28 miles away. Always thought about longer passages but in truth probably enjoy the challenges of coastal navigation more. Above anything I just enjoy all aspects of life on the water. My last boat was a 24 foot Mk1 Cornish Crabber, which is a Gaff Topsail Cutter. In April 2009 I sold my Crabber and purchased a Hurley 22 which is a much better sea boat and an excellent single hander’s yacht.

I sold my Hurley 22 in July 2011 and bought a Colvic Watson 23’6" Motorsailer. Looking back at my log books and the large ammount of time spent motor sailing it had to be a motorsailer next. I am really enjoying the full standing headroom and heavy displacement hull.

Sailing Experience

I have been sailing since 1983 in various craft from a Mirror dinghy up to a 31 foot Yachts. I am single-handed the majority of the time and mainly a coastal sailor. I manage one main cruise per season and a few shorter trips, as well as lots of day sailing around the islands. My nearest UK mainland major ports are Newlyn 40 miles and Falmouth 60 miles. Cork in Ireland is 130 miles to the NW and L’aberwrach in Brittany is 105 miles to the south.
