About Me

We are a family that’s been planning this trip around the world for quite some time. We have traveled outside the USA for business and pleasure and that has driven our desire to see as much of the world as we can. We love the outdoors and traveling to places most won’t see. With limited boating experience but a love for the ocean, we felt the best way to accomplish this dream was to sail the world. For the past year we have been taking every opportunity to learn at a higher level the skills necessary to handle our boat regardless of where we choose to go.

This process began over two years ago to learn as much as possible about the reality of this type of commitment. This list is very long and includes cost, risk, knowledge, maintenance, security and safety just to name a few. We believe that it’s best to be as prepared as possible but until you are out there, you will never fully understand what it’s really like or how you will respond. To add to our commitment for saftey and knowledge, we will have a Capt. initially until we feel comfortable to take her on our own.

The choice of what boat we would choose to fulfill the dream took a year. At first, our only fixed requirement was that whatever boat we choose would have a great reputation and be a true blue water/ocean capable vessel. Our list included Oyster Marine, Morris Yachts, Hylas Yachts, Moody Yachts, Passport Yachts and others. We read and talked to as many people as we could and attended several boat shows. We felt all of these could have been good decisions but after meeting Thom Wagner of Passport Yachts, it soon became evident to us that his company fit all the requirements we were looking for at a high level. He was in the process of planning a new flagship yacht for his Vista series and it happened to fit our needs well. The rest is history and we have not questioned our decision in any way since the commitment.

The boat is currently under construction in Xiamen, China. We have visited the factory (located directly west of Taiwan) on the coast of mainland China. We were very pleased with the quality of work and the personnel Thom had in place there to ensure a successful build and a beautiful boat.

Our commitment to Thom will include displaying the boat at the Miami boat show in Feb 09. Once that has been completed, we will begin our trip with our first year to include Bermuda, the Bahamas, Caribbean, Galapagos Islands, across to the South Pacific and beyond.

More information later as we progress.
