About Me

Mid 40’s, born and raised in Reno, NV where my wife and I make our home with our large blended family.

I’m a Professional Fire Captain with 16 years on the job, got hooked on sailing 20 years ago on a Catalina 27 on Tahoe with my dad and his boat partners (also all firemen). I bought a Force 5 day sailor after my dad and his partners sold Puffin and bought a Catalina 36 berthed in Berkely since I wasn’t getting out as much with them not being in Tahoe anymore. Learned just how tough and fun dinghy sailing can be!

I now own a 1981 MacGregor 25’ trailer sailor that we take the family out mainly on Lake Tahoe, though we also find our way to Pyramid Lake, Lake Oroville, Stampede, Eagle Lake and Topaz Lake on occasion. I also bought and restored a 15’ J15 daysailer that I sold to my neighbor; they take me daysailing and I take them on weekend trips. :-)

My dream when I retire is to sell the house and buy a decent size cruising cat (apx. 38-44’) and become cruisers doing the California / Caribbean migration (assuming I can talk the Admiral into it…) and maybe some other coastal cruising.

Sailing Experience

Since the Mac takes about an hour and a half to set & launch / retrieve & take down; I try to go for at least a weekend, or better yet a whole 4 day (my schedule with the fire dept. is 48 hours on duty and 96 hours off duty, the latter referred to as a “4 day”, the firefighter’s version of a weekend).

I really enjoy overnighting on the boat and gunk holing at Tahoe. I have had many amazing sailing experiences; some good, some bad, all of them remarkable that I learned something from.
